Subject: Making door bigger in Harvestor

Leesport, PA
We have two harvestor silos that we use for storing dry corn (20' by 60' and a 25' by 35') and have for over 15 years.

We would like to expand the door openings (access door in the bottom) by extending the channels along the doorways up and cutting out some side wall. Any reason to not do this? With the channels and a couple of braces across the doorway will it be structural sound enough?

Any tricks to cutting through the glass and steel? Chip away the glass before cutting?

How about drilling through the sheets? Chip away the glass and than drill? Any bits that will hold up better than others?

Thanks for the help!

Ryan
