Subject: 350 Chevy engine. Best place for a long or short block?

Callao Missouri
I need to replace the engine in a 94 Chevy pu with the 350 engine. The truck is low miles and I really like the truck so I don't want to send it packing.

I need an engine that comes with an oil pump, for sure and I really don't care about the heads as I can get mine re valve and ground pretty easy. But I like the idea of having a factory torque head and head gasket. How much is either short or long block going to cost? Do I just go to NAPA and say get me one coming or is there better, cheaper re builders?

Also I have checked into it and I can buy the backing plate, flex plate and a stand alone TCM for the 4l80E for $2300 and unitize a 5.9 Cummins that I have setting in a shed that ran good when it was pulled out of its application. There will be a fair bit of work with this so I am thinking if I can get a re man 350 for $1000 to $1600 I may as well put a 350 back in it.

Thanks Jon
