SW Ontario | If you don't have heavy ground, you might be amazed what a turbo till type machine will do. Once over in the fall it won't look like it's done a thing, then once more in the spring I can plant right between the rows and leave the old stalks standing. The problem with the disk is that you cut them off and then try to chop them on the second pass. On heavier ground I generally use a chisel to break up the ground a bit more, then run the coulters over in the spring. Just tried one made by Salford on wheat stubble and still can't get over how level it leaves it, so I'm going to try it on corn stalks. Expensive machine, but for $12/a rent it's not a bad way to find out which one works....hope this helps.... | |
