Soutwest Ks. | Smoke: You don't say what model of JD cornhead you are running, but if you go to the straight rolls with an older style 843 head you will probably be replacing gearboxes. The older gear boxes had the gears pressed on rather than welded as the 93 series heads had. It could be that the last 43 series had the updated boxes but I believe that took place with the 93 series when they made the other knife options available. Another thing to consider, if you are harvesting 230 bu. corn you are putting a lot of strain on the reverser. Any change from the usual taper roll will increase your chance of knocking the reverser out, (which is quite expensive). | |
