Where does the 5 mile circle zone around an airport come from?
Local airport they built a water tower right off the corner of the airport.
Do any airplanes take off so low as to need 5 miles to get to 500 feet?
I'm sure it is to err on the side of safety and I'm good with that. My questions are just for my info, I am not challenging anything.
It seems airports need zones off the runways for sure, but to a layperson is seems like a really big right of way to just make a circle around every airport and claim it as theirs?

If they need 5 miles to get to 500ft, they have a bigger problem than a small drone. I farm right on the airport here and will NOT even think about flying my drone next to the fields (or any airport property) that edge the runway. |
