| Just wondering. Dad had a 966 that was EATING parts store alternators. We put on a CaseIH megavolt remain probably 6 years ago and it's been on there ever since. You might also check the wiring on the tractor. Cracked insulation can cause problems. You might also try a local rebuilder if you have one. A lot of rebuilt alternators just get "what's broke" replaced and put back in service. Supposedly the Megavolt brand are "totally" remanned, which is why they are higher. Is your dealer offering different levels of remans?
