Subject: A/C Question on JD 4430...

Boone/Hendricks Counties, IN
In need of your thoughts on this one....The A/C on a old JD 4430 that my uncle had replaced all the major A/C components on a few years back has stopped working. He put on components that he was told could be used with R134 or R12 freon. He had R12 at that time so that is what he put back into the system. Now, the question is this...would you put in R134 this go around after fixing the leak? I figure at best you have to ensure all the R12 is out of the system. I have talked to some A/C folks that say you cannot mix these at all..."incompatiable oils"...and doing so will cause harm to the system and require complete replacement. The NAPA guy in town states he sells R134 to people that do it all the time and it won't cause a problem...he's a good mechanic I have know since high school. What do you folks know on this subject...thoughts...reload it with R134 or pay the extra and keep R12 in the system after fixing the leak? Any A/C comments welcome...
