I have always wanted to cut the middle grate out of both of the holes the small plates cover in the spot you are talking about so you can at least get it to drain out but my brother think it would weaken it too much. Looking at it the middle strap isnt very thick and the rest of the cast around it is very strong but too chicken to be the first.
