Subject: RE: Planting after a rotary harrow.

So. IL
In the spring when corn planting time is just starting it may take three or four days for the soil to dry sufficiently after running a rotary harrow before planting. You got to remember it is cooler at that time of year.

In mid to late summer when the wind blows and it's 90+ degrees you can generally plant 12 - 24 hours after running a rotary harrow.

And yes, turning the harrows around makes all the difference regarding agressiveness. Totally different machine after we turned ours around. Part of the reason we bought a Phillips Harrow was to level the fields and get rid of the small ridges that exist in the fields from various sources. With the harrows turned around it will level small ridges now and still not till deeper than about an inch.

This was our first year with a Phillips Harrow and I'm glad we had it. We are already looking forward to using it next year.
