| Nebraska is a standardized test on a concrete track. As such, it's a reference point, no more than that. I don't farm concrete. But I do know what my fuel cost-per-acre, or my acres-worked-per-gallon of fuel. The Challenger MT8, matched with the right sized tillage tool, is extremely hard to beat in northern corn belt heavy soils. The Hp-hours per gallon quoted above is in a top-to-bottom range variance of less than 2.8 percent, which is not arguably significant.
75% drawbar numbers are only of marginal worth because 75% is not in the most efficient spot on most tractor's power curve. If you're not running 90+ percent, you're mismatched either to the implement or the task. Today's top producing farmers do not run at such anemic output. | |
