Subject: Re: NH3 tank for diesel fuel

We have a 1,000 gal AA tank & gear that we use as a diesel fuel hauler. Works good. We did rinse it out with water, then rerinsed with diesel fuel before using but it was clean inside & probably could have gotten by without doing it but didn't want to take a chance.

WE removed the valvees & put a 20 gpm 12v fuel pump where the withdrawal valve was along with a 35 gpm filter 1" hose, & a 1" automatic shutoff nozzle. WE had to use a pipe bushing to mount the pump but the pickup tube went down the bunge opening without any problems.

WE found out you couldn't use the fill valve bunge for filling. I believe there is a fill pipe that goes to the bottom of the tank and it kept backing the fuel up & shutting off the nozzle on the delivery truck. We installed a combination fil / vent cap in the bunge where the vapor valve was & it fills fine there.

One handy thing was that the guage still works so you can tell how much is in the tank by looking instead of having to dip it.

There are 3 or 4 in this area being used as portable fuel tanks. Friends have an air compressor mounted on their's & fill their equipment by air pressure. Only problem they have had was someone stole their air compressor off of it.
