The mech got it right, did three of these this spring with all new pins and bushings. The holes in the bushing are actually at the top-where the grease needs to be! the groove in the casting leads to the bottom, and yes clay based grease will "dry up", a little heat usually gets it going again.
I can't imagine the bushing turned, they are a tight fit!
