Trackframes. How long is too long??

taking as both are drive units, slack is in front of the sprocket, front idlers receive little to no pressure from the tracks while moving forward, when moving backward they receive all the force or pressure...that's why we never back up a leaning incline with a Cat, tracks will always try to crawl off the rear bottom roller and progress forward to the front idler...that never happens moving forward-ever...you really need to watch a steel track machine run for a half hour...you will easily see what we are talking about...it will work as you describe, just not live nearly as long...All Cat service bulletins pertaining to undercarriage and the study of, strongly suggest moving forward as much as possible to lessen wear on undercarriage...Steel track machines take a lot of flak on which brands-models run the longest on an undercarriage = less cost per hour of service.

non working side of a conventional steel track machine is the top of the tracks from the sprocket at the 10 o'clock position to the front idler at the 5 o'clock position.
