Centre county Pennsylvania, USA | Ran two on-farm tests today on Trimble's EZGuide-500 with WAAS corrections. First test was to determine improvement in number of satellites and HDOP when EZGuide-500 is configured to "Use SBAS satellites in the position fix". Observations over as half hour period this PM produced very consistent results, number of satellites improved by 1 and HDOP improved by 0.1 when "Use SBAS satellites in the position fixes" was selected. First Attached screen snap shows one example of typical result for the "use SBAS satellites in the position fix" case. Second attached screen snap shows one example of typical result when "use SBAS satellites in the postion fix" is not selected case.
The other test was a swap of antennas between EZGuide-plus and EZGuide-500. Observations of WAAS satellite SNR over a half hour period were less consistent but they did show that the EZGuide-plus antenna can be used in EZGuide-500 without significant loss of performance. The biggest difference between antenna types in this test seems to be that the EZGuide-plus antenna had more gain (higher SNR) at low elevation angles than did the EZGuide-500 antenna. That could be a property of the antennas themselves but it's more likely a property of the antennas plus tractor. Here is the average SNR's for both WAAS satellites (135 and 138) for EZGuide-500 with EZ-plus and EZ-500 antennas.
WAAS satellite 135 (17 degree elevation) average SRN for Ez-plus antenna = 43 dB
WAAS satellite 138 (34 degree elevation) average SRN for Ez-plus antenna = 45 dB
WAAS satellite 135 (17 degree elevation) average SRN for Ez-500 antenna = 36 dB
WAAS satellite 138 (34 degree elevation) average SRN for Ez-500 antenna = 46 dB
