I am surprised at the number of farmers recommending to replant. At the cost of seed, this would be an expensive 40 acres. You already have double seed cost. Killing it and replanting make three times the normal seed cost. I would try to kill half of the current stand. I would take a cultivator and set it up with a sweep (6 inch or 7) skip space 6 or 7 inches, another sweep, another skip, etc and then cultivate cross ways the the rows. I would hope to take out one half of the population leaving the desired population and somewhat of a reasonable spacing on the remaining stand.
