I hate side dressing due to at least the perception of crop damage and wet weather when its time to sidedress concerns. More than one farmer has reminded me that sidedressed corn looks the same at harvest as that which was preplanted but I hate running over the stand while side dressing. Don't forget you can usually put one less N without a downside if you sidedress.
