Subject: you've got a tough decision to make

Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan
Craig,

I think your logic sounds right to me. My thinking is, with a 50/50 share arraignment, it's not his place to debate what your costs are with regards to your growing the crop, so long as you are doing a good job of producing a good crop. I don't think it's his right to make issue of how efficient and cost effective you are in producing a good crop. Again, if your producing a good crop for the given growing season, he certainly shouldn't use the efficient way you produce the crop against you. Frankly, that's ridiculous.

But the bigger issue is, does he have a "plan B" if you don't give him what he wants. And that "plan B", at some point in time, probably eliminates you as his tenant. Only you can decide if keeping the farm is worth paying the extra cost. Like I think someone else mentioned, I'd want at least a three year deal to anything I agreed to. Your landlord is beginning to sound like someone I would be leery of trusting to do the right thing.

Let us know how this turns out.
