We had an EZ guide 500 new last year and it did exactly the same as the first problem you mentioned. However although we never got a fix, if you keep driving and just assume that it realises you have reached the headland it will generate a line to follow for the second pass. Its not easy as you have to be moving away from the original pass with nothing to aim at, but it will eventually appear. Not a lot of help I know, and I would also like a fix.
