I had a 1086 one time that was hard starting and I know you will find this hard to believe, but it was the "weatherchecked" rubber fuel line that fed the pump. NO sign of any fuel leak but apprently air was able to enter the system and cause a void in the fuel supply. New rubber hose and it was fixed!
