I would suggest if you have never done it before, to get a broker to assist. You will need to have all proper paperwork faxed to customs 24 hrs prior to the items arrival. I should say this is the experience here in SW Ontario crossing at Sarnia, Windsor or Fort Erie.

You can just drive a tractor across. We drove a tractor across the Blue Water bridge last summer, but all the papers were in order prior to our arrival.

Make sure the equipment is spotless. Any dirt/soil can be a reason to turn you around. We found a car wash in Port Huron before we crossed and gave it a quick wash down. They tend to want to see in the cab, so clean it up real good too.
