Mother-in-law is letting me have her father's 87 Huskey riding mower, but it needs two new front tires, a coil or something in the motor because it dies after it gets warm, and a new starter and battery. My father-in-law says he figured it up (in his head) that it would take around $300 to get it going again. I see I can buy a new Huskey (same size) at Tractor Supply for $999. This old one also has a chisel culivator thing on the back so it would be nice for my mom's garden too. Just not sure where to draw the line between fixing up and new. You are close to where some very good mowers are manufactured. Go look at the Hustler line. Very good, long lasting mowers. If you run one of these for an hour, you will never go back to the garden tractor type mower. Mow so much better and faster. I use a Scag and a Dixon. The Scag is very good, but expensive. Toro is also good. Nothing beats a zero turn for just mowing.
Good luck,
