Made a bench when my dad was still with us. His idea, 4 x 4 uprights (oak), frame and top made of 2 x 6 covered with 10 gauge steel, with lip on the front side and a splash guard, if you will on the back side. 25 yrs and still going strong. Pound on it, weld on it, just take the grinder and smooth it off if you get weld on it.
