| The chlorides matter when placing large amounts in the corn seed trench and in a golf course situation where they are growing grass on an inch or two of soil. We routinely have growers place melted muriate of potash as part of a complete starter with no problems on our loams and clay loams. The growers on the sand (Shore of MD) would have a higher risk of salt injury when placed close to the seed. 2X2 logically would seem to make the most sense as far as nutrient placement goes.
I'm not sure I follow you on the "hot zone" issue when it comes to "ortho" starter. You could accomplish the same avoidance result with regular old Ag grade starter.
