Back in my Navy days I seem to remember aviation metalsmiths going to sickbay to bum oil of wintergreen to use as a penetrating oil to get screws out of panels on airplanes. At least it smelled good. Never tried it myself. BTW, WD-40 was absolutely banned for all purposes except cleaning the compressor of a J-85 jet engine.
