Brazilton KS | I don't follow your point. Why does killing the animals out where they are finished result in hauling corn, bean meal, or distillers grain? The cattle are finished there either way, because it seems to have been found that it's more efficient that way. The climate is better and the supply of feed is better. Pretty much all of our calves go to SW KS to be finished. There's a 5000 head yard around here, but that's a drop in the bucket. It would take an awful lot of half empty goosenecks to run a packing plant for a day. An AWFUL lot. Yes, if you took cattle there, you will probably miss it, but that doesn't really change the economics of an industry which is changing.
