The -30 temp most likely froze the outer portions of the wet newborn calf's ears. Probably most of the tail too. Those tough lil' buggers that survive being born when it's that cold usually make the best momma cows. They show a can-do attitude from day 1. That's also why I like to wait until warmer temps to calve, but sometimes Mother Nature makes other plans LOL!
