Subject: Possible to make a shallow well deeper?

Sioux Center, Iowa
Our water goes for dairy use, so i thought I could risk asking this here. : ) During summer, if we get a little dry, our drilled wells can't keep up. We have 3 of them. One is always ok. Two start to run short when the water table gets down. The bottomsof these 3 wells are only about 18' from the surface. Fairly safe to say the bottoms are in sand or gravel. They'll average about 6' of water in them. I have the intakes about 10" off the bottom. Thirty six and 48" curbs. Local well company won't talk about making them "deeper", with smaller curbs or anything else. They say I need to BORE a new well, thus avoiding any future surface water getting into the wells. I can see their point, but.... . . water quality is currently acceptable and I'd just like to get a little more capacity on the cheap. Anybody tried it?
