Like the other post said if your planter is new enough the GS2 will be able to display it, but I would not do that unless you're not going to use the GS2 for anything else. We run a brown box for the planter and use the GS2 for guidance. It's nice to have a dedicated box that constantly has the planter functions on it without having to change the GS2 back and forth. Personally I like to watch the planter at a glance to see what all the rows are doing. Depending on what you run for a tractor there is a pretty simple bracket that will attach both to the corner post in an 8000 series, I assume other Deere's would be the same. I think you'll be glad you put them both in after you run it. For what it's worth I felt the same way you do until I ran it with both boxes. That's my 2 cents.
