Kansas | Yea, I think the success rate of hanging down cows and expecting them to walk again is a very low percentage.
I think in the past 15 years, if I had to make an educated guess, we've had 3 to 5 cows go down on us for some reason or another and I can only remember 1 successfully getting better and walking on their own and that the holding them in the air did any good.
We have a shed that one side is open and has a solid heavy pipe running down the center of the roof. We have used chains and come-a-longs attached to it to hoist the cow in the air with the baler belting around her.
At least it airs the bed sores and lets the body adjust to a standing positing internally for awhile instead of just laying on the ground continually.
Still, like you Greg, It's alot of work and it hasn't been very successful for us either.
