Ah, come on Matt. I planted a lot of winter wheat fertilizer placement trials for many years and I never saw any disasters until one put a lot more than 15 lb/ac of any fertilizer including sulphur. And I would guess they are planting more seed than they need for a crop anyway so a few seeds that don't grow won't have much effect.
I can also tell you that placing fertilizer while planting winter wheat is generally a waste of time and effort. The cheapest way you can get the fertilizer on the crop is probably the best and that a spring top dress almost always pays for itself and more.
