Your neighbor can consider himself lucky with only a 9 bu. hit. Here in nc Ia. the first year we had them, some fields were sprayed and some not. My son trying to save some money walked his field every day looking and counting. The threshold told us at that time was 1500 per plant, then changed to 500. His field along with a LOT of others was 22 bu per A. some fields took a 30 bu hit. The threshold leval for aphids now for us is if you can find them. My own sprayer and a cut rate for 5 bucks/A and a tank of fuel.
