Subject: Aphid Yield Hit

Genoa City, WI
Rode the combine with a customer Saturday morning. He was combining a field that used to be two fields...they took the fence out over the winter. The old 'east field' was sprayed with a full rate of Asana in early August to control aphids. At the time, the farmer didn't want the other half sprayed. We ended up never spraying it.

Riding in the combine on Satuday, we were wondering why the yield was dropping when we crossed the fenceline. It went from 70-80 (seriously) to 60-70. The farmer pulled the yield map off the data card over the weekend, I went back and looked up some records and found the spraying difference. He found a nine bushel yield difference.

9 time 9 equals 72 minus the $15 or so for the aerial spraying....spraying for aphids made him $66 an acre on that field, this year.

Bottom line, if you have aphids at or near threshold, spray.
