I'm not sure what the consensus on the disappearing bees is, but I've heard all kinds of explainations. Most seem to be wild guesses. Even heard someone say that cell phone towers and other high frequency radio waves were causing the bees to get lost. Do an internet search and you can find all kinds of explanations.
As far as Bumblebees, I sure don't like them. Had a run-in with some last year.
