ND | I've always been curious how those that run pasteurizers keep a steady supply of waste milk. I suppose if you milk 500+ head you would probably have enough fresh cows coming in or treated cows to keep ample amounts available. As I've said before I don't milk enough cows to justify feeding whole milk but I have to wonder if milk replacer isn't a better option. By my figures milk replacer is probably costing about 80 cents more per day to feed over whole milk but that isn't considering any cost for running the pasteurizer. Now I don't know maybe they are pretty cheap to run, never been around one. However, with milk replacer I have no worries about spreading diseases. | |
