Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit!
My dad did that when we were at our all time poor days (he borrowed my christmas card money to put gas in his truck) Another guy bought them and we ran them for half the profit. they made more money than a stocker ever would, We would worm them, put them on normal grass and feed them about the same as a stocker (5 pounds a day with under 2 pounds of corn) and they could gain 3 to 4 pounds a day, but, be ready for the crazy ones, the ones that never gain any weight, and most of all, the ones that are just as thin all winter but happen to pop out a baby calf in feb. The only reason we like good cows instead of doing that is because having skinky ugly cows with salebarn tags never gains any merit with the neighbors. And we like having cows that will get called into the corral instead of ones that need darted before they are drug into the pot on sale day. They are kinda like stockers in a lot of ways, They sure add up on paper but after a good long winter, they don't add up at all.
