The ration was based on barley. A mix of barley, feedlot additive and barley straw for roughage. My steer weighed in at 411kg (906 pounds) so all the steers in the photos would be a similar weight. This was the middle weight division 400-500 kg. There was also a lightweight 330-400kg (727-880 pounds) and a heavyweight 500+ kg (1100 punds). All steers had to be milk tooth. There was a good mix of breeds so plenty of black cattle as well.

A lot of schools do get involved in showing as well. The sad thing was loading the steers for the trip to the abattoir after the auction. Plenty of tears from the school kids as their "pet" was loaded for the final trip, I can understand how they felt.
