Grawn Michigan | We were at $2.75 a pound including a basic butcher. We added what the butcher charged if something special was done like burger patties($.75 per pound). When we figure kill fee, enviromental fees, processing, and trucking ( deliver to butcher and we bring back to farm to have everyone pick up at one time) it is right near $.50 per pound. There is alot of leg work and time spent in it. There should be some extra money in it. We only use one butcher and dont offer a choice. They are inspected by usda. Has worked pretty well for us but no get rich quick scheme here. Every year we say it would be nice to but them on a trailer and get a check in the mail but we do it over agine. | |
