Are you sell it or using it yourself? We bale some every fall, use it for bedding in the winter and spread it back on it the spring or the next fall. By the time we are spreading it the stalks are really decomposed and really break up nice. I really don't think that we loose a lot of nutrients and I think they end up breaking down faster.
