New Mexico | ground ear corn if available ( the cob in the corn does wonders for weaning digestion ).
Say 2 lbs oats and 2 lbs gec per head per day.
( back the afore energy out at 4 weeks and go with all ddgs from then on, say 1 lb ddg per 100 lbs of calf weight daily )
ddgs approx 30% protien and extra fat too thus, are perfect for backgrounding cattle.
Cattle eat right at 3 lbs of feed air dry basis per 100 lbs of bodyweight daily.
So when your calves weigh say 500 they're eating 14 to 15 lbs of feed air dry basis. ( guess you can figure your tonnage inputs that way ).
Kinda tough to go with alot of corn early because they'll get fleshy on you ( cuts frame growth )
Favor higher protien feed and roughage till they weigh towards 850+ then add in some extra corn and they'll have the frame to handle it.
If your worried bout health on em feed some aureo s 700 ( for the 30 day weaning time frame ).
Health breaks on calves some at 3 weeks into weaning generally.
Add say 1 lb of protien w rumensin to cut coccidiosis.
