Myself and neighbors around here will not run the direct burial wire on our own. Will let power company do it on there end, but not on ours. The reason being is gophers they they will eat lines up like crazy, these pics were the wire that comes in light plastic pipe from pivot company. It was only in three years, you can see all the holes. The owner wanted it put in PVC pipe sprinkler company insisted this was better, it's not. Also it seems they can chew through anything less than 2" I've even seen HDPE pipe 1 1/2" water lines gophers have worked on.
The pipe needs to be bigger than their mouth, that's why go with 2" or bigger.
