Subject: RE: Geo thermal vs Propane heater

Renville Minnesota

Cost about 15k more than a propane burner.   Backup is electric (built in).....

My previouse post had the TOTAL electicity used in January.   My TOTAL electric bill in july and august is around 145 bucks.

No way would I say Geothermal is the way to go for everyone, but for me, it was a no brainer.  I heat and cool allot of space and god willing, i'll be here an easy 30 more years.

Im not looking at a 7 year pay back, and to be honest, I cannot tell you the cost difference as this was put in a new house.    I would be comfortable betting on a 15 year pay back.....   My electric rate is discounted to 4.5 cents......   Propane for small tanks (under 12,000 gallons) here has been over 2 bucks in the past, but probly avg in last 3 years is 1.85 gallon.    If I get a payback (including interest, and cost of real money at 6%) in 12-15 years I'll be happy......  But I really cannot tell you the payback.

I do think heating over 5500 square feet for under 200 bucks during the month, in a climate that makes yours feel like a tropical paradise is quite reasonable.
