Subject: RE: cattle dogs

Depends on how you want your dog to work . Do you want driving or herding ? Heelers are drivers , they are like all the rest ,make sure you get one from working stock , and see the parents work before you drop the dime . I've got a red and a blue , one works one is a pet .

Border collies and Aussies have herding instincts , but need to be trained to control them . If not they will be in trouble . Border collies tend to be high strung , if they aren't working all the time they are a PIA .

I've got a catahoula, he turned into my wifes pet . Partialy because I don't know how to train him ,for the way they are supposed to work , There aren't that many of them in the north that work cows ,most are being bred to hunt up here.

All these breeds will bite , my dogs don't see people ,so if someone shows up in the yard , they go nuts . Most cattle dogs are 1 person dogs , but bond with kids if you get them as puppies .
