We have a girl due in early May and have been going through the same thing.  I think my wife has spent at least 50 hours of internet time researching them and each time we found one we liked the reviews on them would turn us away.  The one we finally found that we really liked is the Chicco Cortina Keyfit travel system and my wife ordered one yesterday along with the matching pack n play and hichair.   The Chicco is a little more money than most of the other brands but after seeing some of the features it has that the other's don't and everywhere we looked they had at least a 4.5 out of a 5 star rating system.  We found one in a Target store on Saturday and played with it for several minutes and it was much sturdier than the cheap ones (aluminum frame instead of plastic) and it just seemed easier to use, from folding to latching the carseat in.  I believe Walmart, Target and Babies R Us all carry the Chicco brand but it doesn't seem to as common and some places it is online only
