Chilliwack BC | We always used to go with 3 liters but are starting to go 4. The bigger bottles were 3 so that made it convenient. We were recently part of a university study on colostrum intake where they took blood samples and 90% of our calves had the adequate level of antibodies.
One problem we have is that we freeze our colostrum so we waste too much time thawing it if we aren't milking the cow in the next couple hours. We should be putting it in a fridge to save time on that. We only have a small bar fridge in the barn for medicine that doesn't have room for large bottles of colostrum. That is one change that would improve the speed of calves getting colostrum around here.
