| When I have fresh calves I try to get 80% of the calves at least 1 gal. of colostrum in the first 4 hours and the rest in the first 8 hours. You know calves aren't always born when you are standing there waiting and I have pretty good luck with my calves. Tubing is perfectly fine for colostrum but only colostrum, I never tube milk or milk replacer. I put a strong 2 quarts of colostrum in bags and freeze it so I know I'm giving them at least 4 quarts if not 5 quarts of colostrum. Colostrum is the most important thing you can give a calf, also make sure the cows are getting a scourguard or guardian vaccine for the calves. That is also very important. | |
