I would use a bolt myself I have used lags into wood and I have used angle iron. If you don't know how to weld is what I am saying is that little tit sticking there could break off . I don't have time to go back and fix it . A nail will flex just like a bolt . redirod would be welded rigid creating a stress point at the weld. You could bump it with a tractor , or have a 2500 # bull on top of the rail you don't want it coming down . the bolt will hold the best.

*You would be surprised at some of my posts ! (4 ft in is deep enough) my uncle always tells me he hopes that he never has to tear down what I build. *
