WY, OK | I wouldn't think of using a 3 BW EPD on a heifer, I hate going much over that with our cow bulls. Personally I don't pay much attention to the bulls birth weight, there are too many exterior factors in that like what the cow was fed and what the temperature was in that last gestation. We've been using ABS's Proficient bull, he is a .9BW with a 7.5CED. I was nervous using a bull over 0 since we usually use 0 and under with the red angus bulls for heifers but it has worked great last year and so far this year. Anymore CED is also getting even more important than the BW EPD to me. | |
