We dump it in and it works fine. We always put the hay in first then everything else on after the hay. This is for dairy cows. We put hay, corn, protein and the silage. Sometimes when its hot he adds those hydrate pellets and some other mineral that we would dump in the top of the mixer with a scoop or dump on the conveyor if we are getting silage out of the silo.
