Bill, Drying is often a MAJOR issue and cost in the harvest of corn in the northern cornbelt some years, and not in other years. I do interseed a lot of legume clovers in my pastures and the rotational grazing really makes good use of them. Some of the Texas folks are very high on clovers. I find they help a lot in midsummer when the cooler season grasses just seem to stop growing. Having a blend of different grasses in the sward really helps get through the grazing year. I know absolutely nothing about Eastern Gammagrass. However I will go out on a limb and hazard a guess that when you go out for a steak you might just prefer one finished by grazing corn than grazing Eastern Gammagrass... I don't want to start a grass fed/corn fed debate but a little corn in the finish really makes some tasty beef, in my opinion. Interesting discussion. Thank you. Jim at Dawn |
