I was thinking about bull assignments for the coming summer season. Every once in a while I like to re-read this page on line breeding, especially the chart near the bottom of the page.

It looks like there is some benefit to crossing cattle you have and know something about. I currently have a variety of outside genetics from initial cattle purchases but I see a big difference between them and am thinking of a couple different line breeding plans as shown on the bottom of the page. One in commercial and one in a registered group.
